Quick answer: Our directory lists 7 low-cost dental clinics in Savannah, all in Chatham County and all open to the public. Uninsured adults should start with the sliding-scale community health centers run by Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health Care and J.C. Lewis Primary Health Care Center. Children can also get care at the county health department's dental clinic or free care at the Savannah Volunteer Dental Clinic, and Georgia Medicaid now covers full dental care for adults.
When I went through the 7 Savannah listings in our directory, I found 4 community health centers, 1 public health department clinic, 1 free or charitable clinic and 1 dental hygiene school clinic. Three list Medicaid as accepted, three charge sliding-scale fees based on income, and five publish hours. It's a short list, so I've included every one of them below.
The most important thing to know before you call: in Savannah, which clinic you go to depends a lot on age. The county health department clinic and the volunteer clinic serve children only, so adults should head to the health centers.
Where can I get low-cost dental care in Savannah?
Several of these listings were last confirmed in 2019, and I've flagged them; call before you go, since hours and services may have changed. Hours are what each clinic published, so call to confirm dental hours too.

Where should an uninsured adult in Savannah start?
My advice is to call the Curtis V. Cooper and J.C. Lewis clinics first. They're the four adult-friendly options in our Savannah listings, and three of them are on the county health department's list of adult dental options for the uninsured. J.C. Lewis Dental Office says it takes walk-ins, and J.C. Lewis Dental Center lists evening hours on Mondays and Tuesdays, which helps if you work days.
If you're in pain, say so when you call, so the clinic knows it's urgent. If one site can't fit you in, try the next one on the list.
If you only need a cleaning, Savannah Technical College's hygiene clinic charges reduced fees. Student visits usually take longer than at a regular office, so plan for that.
Does Georgia Medicaid cover adult dental care?
Yes. Since July 1, 2024, Georgia Medicaid has covered a full range of dental care for adults 21 and older, including exams, cleanings, fillings, root canals, crowns, gum treatment, dentures and extractions. Before that, adult coverage was mostly limited to emergencies, so if you were told a few years ago that Medicaid wouldn't pay for a filling, it's worth asking again.
Children are covered through Georgia Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids, Georgia's low-cost coverage for kids, and both include dental care. You can learn more at Insure Kids Now. Not every clinic takes Medicaid, so ask when you book.
How much will I pay?
The health centers use sliding-scale fees: bring proof of household income and size, and the clinic sets your discount. The county clinic and the hygiene school charge reduced fees, and the volunteer clinic is free for eligible children. None of the Savannah clinics publish exact prices, so ask for an estimate before treatment, especially for dentures or partials.
What should I bring to my first visit?
- A photo ID
- Proof of income, such as pay stubs, a tax return or a benefits letter
- Proof of address
- Your Medicaid, PeachCare or insurance card
- A list of the medicines you take
- For children, the parent or guardian's ID
